We recently finished building our deck (…well actually we had someone else build it- I mean, I AM handy but I want people to live LOL!)
Having a deck has been a goal of ours since we moved in, and once it was built we were excited! They started in the dead of winter which felt odd at the time but now I’m happy since it was finished just in time for spring!
It wouldn’t be complete until we styled it by bringing the indoors out- Here’s how to create an outdoor oasis!
Everything we purchased is from Walmart– thank you Walmart for partnering with us on our modern outdoor living room!
RUG
First things first- I believe a rug is the foundation to a great space – it anchors the room, and creates zones. With a deck the size of ours (16 x 20), we had space for two zones. This one is for sitting!
I loved this rug! The tassels bring texture and the stripes carry a boldness in the space, which was needed with all of the subtle gray and wood tones. I got the 5×7 but there are other sizes online.

SEATING
Next is seating. I like a sleek and modern feel, so this 4 piece set immediately caught my eye. I loved the black cord wrapped around the arms – such a striking touch. I am not gonna lie- I was impressed by how sturdy and heavy the pieces were as we took them out of the box. The wood and the cushions are treated for weather, and it’s comfortable! A win-win-win.

PILLOWS
Adding tone and texture to a space makes it feel warm and welcoming. These striped tasseled pillows were the perfect touch. I added this black lumbar pillow to create a cohesive look. I normally don’t love matchy matchy but I really liked the way it came together!

PLANTERS
No space is complete without plants. They always bring the room to life, and it’s no different for an outdoor oasis. And with plants you must have pretty planters!
I loved this planter with the wooden leg base and the markings are a pretty touch to bring in the wood tones.
This resin planter is lightweight and looks like one I’ve seen that is ceramic with a circular wooden base – it’s so pretty!
These two table top planters are gorgeous inside the house and out.
And don’t forget to decorate an empty wall space with planters – this set of wall planters filled the wall so beautifully.

LIGHTING
We are not finished yet- we still have to add a dining area and barbecue but I picked up this string lighting which adds a warm ambience to the space. We will be putting them up shortly!
