I’ve always looked forward to Fall: The soundtrack of football on a Sunday afternoon, Rob’s chili, and of course, the colors (I missed them so much when we lived in Texas!) Also because boots and sweaters, duh!
Lately, boots have presented a challenge for many of us, especially lug sole boots.
It all started because over the last few years, we’ve been incorporating non skinny jeans back into our lives. This had us all in our feels. “But wait! How do we wear boots if we’re not wearing skinny jeans!!??”
We suffered from the classic symptoms of skinny jeans withdrawals and straight leg amnesia. But, we finally came to the conclusion that we might just be OK. AS LONG AS WE REJECT LOW RISE WITH EVERY FIBER OF OUR BEING. Mmmkay?? We can do this. We are in this together.
Anyhoo, the issue was that with straight jeans, boots seemed tough to pull off. I shared that: 1. The tops of the boots and hem of the straight denim should have a small gap between them, or 2. The ankles of the boots should be quite slim to avoid a “trunk leg.”
Now lug sole boots have made their way into all of our hearts and closets. And the most frequently asked question I get is, “They’re cute but how do I wear them??”
Last week I went to Nordstrom again (one of my favorite places to shop -plus it’s based in Seattle, so it’s a little piece of comfort for me until we get back to our home) and I tried on multiple lug sole boots (see them below- HIGHLY recommend all of these). I really wanted to take all of them home -my son would have loved that- he’s my salesperson!
But I tempered my enthusiasm and narrowed it down to this one pair. They’re waterproof, sturdy, have the coolest shape, and they’re pull on.
Below are just a few ways I styled them. I shared on instagram how to wear them with a wider straight denim. Here are some additional ways to wear lug sole boots!
First off I will say I cheated because my friend Candace, who is an actual professional full time stylist, was with me when I bought the boots and I dragged her around Nordstrom for extra tips! I told her what I had at home and she added a couple pieces to bring it all together!
I already owned this free people long dress and I love it so much coming out of summer. Candace suggested this beautiful coat over the top and to add leggings for warmth when the weather cools down even more. The boots really balance out the feminine detail of the dress, and this coat gives it structure. This coat is meant to be oversized but I still sized UP to a medium because I have broad shoulders and I wanted to wear my chunky knits underneath.
Omg Candace took it too a whole nutha level when she said to belt the coat! I chose this one from Madewell, which I also own in black. When I got home and put it together I fell in love!! The lug sole boots make this chic and classic style look so modern and now! I love these leggings (I’m 5’ 4” and got the petite) and this turtleneck, both of which I already owned.
I added the reversible turtleneck sweatshirt tunic that I love and finished it with a crossbody bag.
Just kidding! It’s not a skirt! Another trick I learned from my friend Candace is to take a longer sweater (this is the same tunic length reversible turtleneck!) and a dress. Layer the sweater over the top, belt it, and pull it back out until it looks like a cropped sweater and skirt! GENIUS!!!! I mean, how many of our summer dresses can we transform with this trick?! I’m in.
Ok you guys lately this is my favorite thing to do! Grab one of Rob’s jean jackets, roll the sleeves, and ta-dah!! A cute new look to pair with lug sole boots. I love the boxy fit of a mens denim jacket, and you can find some great ones at an affordable price. This one is under $100 and it looks perfect over a sweater, dress, or feminine blouse. It’s an XL in mens.
Here I wrapped a blouse and added this straight cropped denim. Add jewelry and a bag and you’re done!
DENIM JACKET + TURTLENECK + LEGGINGS
As you can see, these lug boots are so versatile. Now I took that same turtleneck, let it loose, and added faux leather leggings. Top it with a denim jacket to complete the look or wear the outfit without it since the top is tunic length! Again – use the SECRET HINT: wear your man’s jean jacket. This is an XL. TWO-FER!
Also you could try a mini skirt, tights, and a blazer. A slip dress and denim jacket would also be so cute!
And those, my friends, are just a few ways to wear lug sole boots. Thank you to Nordstrom for partnering with me on this post!!
