In the beginning, Rob and I celebrated Valentine’s Day just like everyone else. But about halfway through our 24 years together, we looked at each other and said, “Do we really even care about Valentine’s Day that much?” We’d been jumping through hoops to make it special for each other and that year we were super busy.
I went first. “Honestly, I like going on dates but it’s not that serious if we can’t make it happen. We can celebrate our love any time we want and we do that. It doesn’t have to be on February 14th.”
“I don’t care about gifts for Valentine’s Day at all. I always went all out because I thought you loved it.” We laughed about it, and ever since, we just treat Valentine’s Day like any other date night and if it’s not convenient for us to do something special… no big deal.
That being said, I know Valentine’s Day has become a great reason to show love – to your spouse, your girlfriends for Galentine’s, or your kids.
In this post, I’m partnering with Nordstrom to share some ideas for what to wear for Valentine’s Day, or any date night any day of the year!
This year, Valentine’s falls on a Wednesday and you may be coming straight from work. This versatile blazer looks great over anything, but I paired it with a skirt, sheer patterned tights, boots and a turtleneck bodysuit. The blazer is TTS and is soft and comfortable. Love the pop of color!
I found this gorgeous off-shoulder satin floral top and paired it with jeans for a fun Galentine’s or Girls night out. It’s cropped with a stretchy gathered band so you don’t have to tuck it! High-waist jeans are perfect with this one.
Ah I was a little wary of trying this shorter dress as I wasn’t sure it was age appropriate and I’m still on the fence, but hmmm goodness I think this outfit is adorable! Block-heel or low-heel over-the-knee boots are perfect with this dress! It’s romantic and fun. It’s true to size.
This is super casual, but I love the old black and white v shaped pattern in this sweater. Put on a red lip and it’s perfect for a low-key date night or time with friends especially if the weather is still cold where you live. Paired with cropped wide legs and loafers.
Finally, this soft flowy floral button-down is so pretty! I thought it looked so great with full-length wide-leg jeans.
And that’s it! Now, if you’re a homebody, I may need to do a homebody date night post just for you, with sweats and Jammies galore!
