“Wow. I remember when you used to not be able to buy a coat.”

Rob said that with awe recently as I tried on a coat I had purchased. I cried when I heard his words. I was grateful.

As a child and even into adulthood there was one thing I desired but seemed perpetually out of reach: being able to buy a coat if I wanted one. I’m glad I had a coat, but it was always a single coat, with tattered edges or holes in the pockets. I would wear it until it quite literally was falling apart. Even then, I was grateful to have something to keep me insulated from the cold.

The first “nice” coat I ever bought was a long time coming. It was beautiful and warm and upon seeing it, I’d hoped that someday I could buy it. I’ll never forget walking into a store and seeing the coat in my size, hanging in the clearance section, marked down so low that I could scrape enough together to buy it. That was 16 years ago. I still have and wear that coat. Because it is special to me.

It is never lost on me that I am able to buy a coat, for me or for my kids. I’ll never ever stop being grateful for that. Because I know what it’s like to be unable to.

Shelter from the elements is a basic human necessity, yet 37 million Americans are struggling to afford the basics. 1 in six children, 7.3 million families, 1.5 million veterans, 25 million seniors and hundreds of thousands who have no place to call home are in need every day and during this holiday season.

For Giving Tuesday, one of the organizations I am donating to and sharing with you is @onewarmcoat. They have coat drives all over the country right now.

To make it easy, places like J Crew, Forever 21 and Eddie Bauer are currently accepting coat donations during mall hours (and they are giving something back to you, too!)

I’ll be sharing about this and a few other causes that I’m contributing to on this Giving Tuesday. I hope that if you’re able, you’ll find one you’d like to contribute to as well.

I shopped @target Wondershop in store and online to begin - they have everything we need- loved this faux garland, downswept trees and an oversized wreath to start! I can’t wait to host holiday parties- our porch is the first thing guests see, and I love it so far. More to come! #TargetHoliday #target

I’ve tried making these using several methods over the last three holidays and the one that I’ve found works best is 185 F on racks (I tried parchment here and it works, but it’s slower).

Slice raspberry/blood or navel oranges 1/4” thin. Flip them every hour for two hours. Repeat every thirty minutes from there, removing a few at a time as needed when the moisture is gone.

For stringing, I recommend waxed thread and an embroidery needle.

For storing, I highly recommend not. They can attract pests if any moisture was remaining. They can also sometimes mold.

Best thing to do is to repurpose them in a simmer pot or use them for gift tags or table settings over the rest of the winter season!

New style with my short hair - soft waves! Switching things up as often as I can, and learning different ways to do my hair at this length.

After wearing it natural for a couple of days, I used heat protectant and straightened with the @ghd_northamerica MAX Styler for a sleek bob. The 2 inch 365 degree plates saved me time and kept my hair looking shiny.

When was the last time you felt beautiful? I honestly had no idea a dress could make you feel so amazing.

Candace Read told me (she insisted- which was so generous of her!) to borrow her Farm Rio dress several months ago (slide 4) and I literally felt transformed. Afterwards, I went and googled them because I felt so great wearing that dress and I’d hoped that it wasn’t a fluke. It wasn’t.

Over the months, I got two of my own.
