Simmer pots make your house smell soooo good, and they are so easy to do. I like to make simmer pots all year round using seasonal fruits, but during the holidays they are especially fun because it is a great time to elevate them for gifting. They make the perfect hostess gift!
A few years ago my neighbor gifted me a simmer pot and it was so simple and beautiful. Just an orange, a cup of cranberries, a teaspoon of cloves, a cinnamon stick, and a bay leaf wrapped in cellophane. It was perfect.
The next year, I decided to gift them to some of my friends. I used a pretty little glass container with a wooden top and instead of a fresh orange, I used dehydrated oranges. You could also do the same with any dried fruit, including cranberries. I also used a little copper pot to house the gift.
This year I found the cutest little fluted pot on amazon that would make a pretty hostess gift, or a nice treat for yourself, which you could also use for ramen noodles, or tea.
For a single gift, I like to use my neighbor’s recipe, and add a sprig of rosemary. Feel free to add more fruit, dried or whole if you want to use a larger vessel. Place everything in a jar and add a bow, or use cellophane and a pretty ribbon. Dehydrated oranges are a nice touch to add a bit more decor to the wrapping.
TIP: Keep your fruit scraps and freeze them so you can use them for your personal future simmer pots.
I hope you enjoy a simmer pot yourself this winter. There’s really no wrong way to do it! In the Spring, try mint, lemon, lavender and rosemary!
