Sephora Holiday Savings: What’s worth buying.

November 5, 2021 By Anna Groves 2 Comments

The Sephora Holiday Savings event is here and this is what I think is worth buying.

Sometimes sales pop up and we feel immediate pressure to buy, buy, buy – from the retailer, from the influencer, and sometimes ourselves. We fool ourselves into believing that there is this ultimate sense of urgency to purchase things, even though we would not have been shopping had there been no sale to prompt us. I like to push against that, and when there’s a sale, I think like this:

There are three times I participate in sales where I don’t feel like it’s just consumerism:

  1. When it’s stuff that I buy and replenish consistently anyway.
  2. When it’s an expensive item I’ve been chewing on for a long time.
  3. When I’m thoughtfully gifting.

Reasons NOT to buy:

  1. You’re avoiding your emotions
  2. Because an influencer told you to
  3. Because you’re keeping up with the Jones’s (or Kardashians😂)
  4. You feel pressure because it’s a sale.

I wanted to share details without pressure, and encourage you to pause before purchasing. Details about the sale are below, and then you’ll see things on Sephora Holiday Savings Event that I think are worth the purchase!

CODE: YAYHOLIDAY

  • 11/5-11/15 ROUGE Members get 20% off
  • 11/9-11/15 VIB Members get 15% off
  • 11/11-11/15 INSIDERS get 10% off

Not an insider yet? Super easy to sign up HERE. Ok. Here is what I think is worth buying.

Stocking up on:

Cleansers! I go through cleansers like nobody’s business. I use a cleansing balm and a foaming cleanser and these are two of my favorites that I always have on hand. A good moisturizer is always by my side and this one is light and never greasy but hydrating. Great under makeup. My holy grail retinol is also on sale- it is the best one for me because it has lactic acid and is never irritating. Finally in the skincare category, I must always have my glowscreen. Great alone or under makeup.

Face Makeup! Teint Idole Ultra Wear -The G.O.A.T. of foundations. I love it because it stays on all day but looks natural. This Saie tinted moisturizer makes the skin look like glass! Hydrating with additional benefits. All time fave concealer. Lasts all day and is so smooth. Then we have my bronzer I wear daily in “caramel cutie”. And cant live without this powder. Never cakes on and great for setting under eyes.

For eyes, here is the palette I wear almost daily, the mascara that’s been on repeat, and my cannot go without eyeshadow primer!

Things worth the sale price

This hair dryer is incredible and I will never go back.

This flat iron I got on your recommendations and it is amazing! Heats super fast and feels less damaging than others I’ve tried.

There is no NEED for this oil, but it definitely is my very favorite. I also LOVE a $10 squalene oil by The Ordinary, but gah… this is the best I have ever tried. Since La Mer rarely goes on sale, these savings events are a great time to bite the bullet if you’ve been waiting. You shake it up each time, then use 2-4 drops.

And finally, La Mer Original Moisturizing Cream.

You can use it as a moisturizer – just a pea size, warm it in your fingertips until it’s CLEAR, then PRESS (don’t rub or massage) it into the skin and it goes SUCH a long way (I PROMISE your fingers don’t absorb it- just keep pressing into the skin all over until it transfers completely from your fingers to your face and neck).

I like it on my face at night, but I use it as an eye cream day and night to keep eczema breakouts at bay. I strayed a few times and had to come back when my eczema flared up. It’s the only thing that heals it up for me. If you decide to use it as an eye cream, get the .5 oz jar and its the same size as any other standard eye cream, so it feels less indulgent lol! The size of a grain of rice is all you need for both eyes!

What I’m gifting

I think I shared before that I am creating little beauty baskets as gifts, and this is how I am doing it!

I am buying sets of cleanser, lip masks, eye masks, fragrance and creating little sets as gifts! How cute is that? And then the Hello! Set is only $10 and those are great gifts for coworkers, teachers and acquaintances, as well as great stocking stuffers. it has a pack of 3 Dr. Dennis Gross peels which alone puts the value over the top!

The La Mer set is for those extra special ladies in my life.

Stay Mindful!

And that’s it! My take on The Sephora Holiday Savings Event and what I think is worth buying. Sometimes it’s easy to buy things we don’t need just because there’s a sale or an influencer told us to. I have been guilty of this, and now I thoughtfully pause before purchasing. Do I really need/use it? Will this deal come again? Is this a thoughtful gift? I hope you’ll do the same! Absolutely love your messaging here. I’m VIB so “can’t shop yet” but also evaluating what I really want vs. need.

23 years ago, I remember looking at Rob and whispe 23 years ago, I remember looking at Rob and whispering, “I want a noisy house.”

I was pregnant with my oldest of four, and visiting my friend’s house. She was pregnant with her youngest of four. Her house was filled with joy… and noise.

Welp, here we are- four grown boys later. That whisper became reality. I got that noisy house, and sometimes when I start to complain, I remember- this was my desire, and God really did deliver.

Thankful for my crew and 23 years of yelling, wrestling, “look at the camera!”, bickering, tears, holes in walls, super hero comparisons (still), “did you brush your teeth?!”, music versus battles, “STOP touching me!”, video games, one word answers, “MOMMMM!!”, boy hugs, and all of my most cringy mom moments.

I hope you had an amazing weekend, and if it wasn’t very amazing, please know that I thought of you on Mother’s Day, and I hold space for you in my heart.
Rob and I are in a very strange season. What we be Rob and I are in a very strange season. What we believed was “next” is no longer. Many people around us are either trying to solve it like it’s a problem to be figured out, or asking us, “So…what’s next?”

I get it. We also want to know. But the truth is, we don’t know. We are waiting to hear from God. It’s hard. It’s uncomfortable. It certainly hasn’t been fun. We feel discouraged at times. That’s where we find ourselves.

But I am thankful. For friends who are fine to sit and wait WITH us. And a God whose greatest desire is to just BE with us in every moment- especially the ones that aren’t epic. The ones when life looks plain. When it seems there is no movement, no vision, no plan, no seemingly huge accomplishment, or mountaintop moment.

What a miracle it is that Peace Himself sits down beside us, scoots in close, and whispers contentment, joy and that He is proud of us into our ears. Proud of us in the mundane. Proud of us in this stillness.

I receive it. I hold onto it. Let me grasp it so tightly and fully that I don’t CARE what’s next, and instead savor who is next to me.

Let right now be our next, and let us find the utmost peace right here.

“Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.”

💇🏽‍♀️Did I leave you hanging???! I had 💇🏽‍♀️Did I leave you hanging???! I had an epic April fools day hair reveal to share but then decided maybe it’s too soon in the decade for more jokes 😂 Here’s the actual new hair :)

I was using black box dye, and as my grays were coming in, they were very obvious, with a line of demarcation showing the grow out.

As a solution, Brittany gave me “lived in color” to camouflage my gray -instead of covering it- by subtly and strategically lightening my hair so the gray “blends.”

She said that camouflage instead of covering is the more modern way of coloring and I’m here for all of the dimension!

First and last slides are day 3 hair, and I kid you not, I hadn’t done anything to it since Brittany styled it on Friday!! I wish I could curl my hair like she does!

Also I like seeing the different tones in varying lights- at sundown (day 1 slide 2) morning light (day 2 slide 3) and golden hour (day 3 slides 1 and 4)

The goal will be less and less red and more warm browns as we progress and slowly go lighter over the coming months!

Love it!
Just found out it’s husband appreciation day so Just found out it’s husband appreciation day so here’s my appreciation post for Rob Groves! Best father, friend, leader and overall person I know! Dances with me in an empty party bus before the party ever starts, puts up with my “dancing”which is saying a lot, puts God, me and our family first, makes me laugh, is always striving to grow for the better, sings Tender Roni with me (which is all I ever wanted ever since 8th grade and needless to say it was worth the wait!) I appreciate him for waiting patiently until I’m done with my try ons, that he loves good food, does a good Daniel Russo, is the finest dookie picker upper, and that I finally broke the “can’t be pranked” door down (last slide). It took years to shed the negative impact those words had on how I saw myself. Not only am I proud of who I am, and where I came from, but I’m proud to be one of many Black women who are doing great things despite the challenges we may have experienced as children.
